The United States of America
The United States of America has been known as the land of opportunity. A place where anyone, no matter their race, creed, or background, can come and make a better life for themselves and their family. However, in recent years, the US has fallen behind in education. Where does Idaho rank in education?
The states
Idaho ranks 14th in the nation for education, according to a new report from WalletHub.
The study compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 28 key metrics, ranging from preschool enrollment rate to math and reading test scores to high school graduation rates.
Idaho scored particularly well in the categories of “quality of education” (5th) and “safety of schools” (11th). The state ranked 25th in the category of “education spending per student.”
WalletHub’s methodology gave the highest possible scores in each category to the state with the best performance in that area, and the lowest possible score to the state with the worst performance. Idaho’s overall score was 69.66 out of a possible 100 points.
Education in the USA
In the United States, each state has different educational standards and regulations. Some states have a higher ranking than others in terms of education. Today, we’ll be discussing where Idaho ranks in education.
The states and their ranking
The United States educates more children than any other country in the world. In 2010, there were over 98,000 public and private schools serving over 49 million students from kindergarten through 12th grade. In terms of higher education, there were over 4,700 colleges and universities in the U.S. in 2009, with approximately 20 million students enrolled.
So where does Idaho rank in education? According to Education Week’s 2018 Quality Counts report, Idaho ranks 43rd among the states. The report measures three main areas: Chance-for-success (which looks at a child’s prospects for educational and economic success from cradle to career), school finance (which looks at spending), and K-12 achievement (which looks at test scores).
Idaho
Idaho is often known for its potatoes and not much else. However, the state has been working hard to improve its education system in recent years. In fact, Idaho now ranks among the top states in the nation for education. Here’s a look at where Idaho ranks in education and what the state is doing to improve its schools.
How does Idaho rank?
Idaho ranks near the bottom of the US in terms of education. In terms of high school graduation rates, Idaho ranks 48th out of 50 states. In terms of college graduation rates, Idaho ranks 43rd out of 50 states.
Why is education important?
The United States should be a global leader in education, but it currently ranks far behind other developed countries. In fact, a 2018 study by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development found that the US ranks 31st out of 36 countries when it comes to math skills and 24th when it comes to reading.
This is troubling news, considering that a well-educated workforce is essential to a strong economy. In Idaho, for example, the median wage for adults with a high school diploma is $15.21 per hour, while the median wage for adults with a bachelor’s degree is $23.62 per hour. That’s a difference of nearly $8.50 per hour, or more than $17,000 annually.
Investing in education is not only important for individuals and families, but also for entire states and nations. A well-educated workforce attracts employers and helps to grow businesses and economies. Education also leads to better health outcomes and lower crime rates.
So where does Idaho rank when it comes to education? Unfortunately, the state ranks near the bottom in several key measures. Here are some key facts about education in Idaho:
-Idaho ranks 43rd out of 50 states in terms of high school graduation rates. Just 77% of Idaho students graduate from high school on time.*
-Idaho ranks 50th out of 50 states in terms of funding per student.* The state spends just $6,936 per student, compared to the national average of $11,762.*
-Idaho ranks 47th out of 50 states in terms of the number of students enrolled in higher education.* Just 33% of Idahoans over the age of 25 have a postsecondary degree.*

Conclusion
Idaho’s high school graduation rate ranks it at 44th in the nation, according to the most recent data from the U.S. Department of Education. The state’s graduation rate has been increasing in recent years, but not as quickly as the national average.
Idaho ranks near the bottom of states in terms of per-pupil spending on public education, at just over $9,000 per student in 2017. That’s about $3,000 less than the national average.
The state has made some strides in recent years to improve its educational outcomes. In 2018, Idaho was one of just a handful of states to see gains in both reading and math scores on the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), which is sometimes referred to as “the nation’s report card.” However, Idaho students still lag behind their peers nationally in both subjects.
